Golf Cart Insurance

Insuring yout Golf Cart

If I have a golf cart should I have it insured separately?

The answer is YES, if it ever leaves your residence premises. Most municipalities will now allow golf carts to be driven around town and on the highway.

If this is the case, they usually will require the owner to pay a small fee to get a sticker to place on the golf cart. They will only issue the sticker if you can show proof of insurance. The insurance policy you need is actually a separate policy written on the golf cart covering it for liability should it cause bodily injury or property damage to someone while it is on public property or a public highway. In Myrtle Beach, golf carts are allowed on the backroads between Ocean Blvd and Highway 17, and the residents love to ride!

Doesn't my Homeowner's Insurance cover Golf Carts?

In some cases you can add a rider onto your homeowners insurance policy to extend coverage to a golf cart off premises. However, this coverage is rare and you need to make absolutely sure it is covered for use on the highway.

We always recommend a separate policy because it is easy to understand, works very similar to your car insurance, and it is really cheap. You can also cover the golf cart for physical damage and theft.

With the "green" movement in full swing, we fully expect these types of vehicles and this type of insurance to grow rapidly in the coming years. Give us a call or fill out our online quote request form and we will get right back to you with a quote on your golf cart insurance!

Also, if you have a golf cart that never leaves your residence, call us, or the company that carries your homeowners insurance to make sure it is covered for theft should it get stolen. Some companies will only cover a golf cart if it is solely used for the maintenance of your premises.
